Double Page Spread Analysis

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The use of the mobile technology could challenge conventional media products, as this allows the magazines to interact with technology. The composition of the image is uses music magazine conventions, but develops them by the use of the information places inside the image.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

The product reprsents social groups by the way in which the interview is written, the short seperated articles may be effective for a teenager audience, but represent them in a negative way. The way in which the image is taken may look stereotypical for teenagers, and may promote the idea that all teenagers are associated with crime through the location.

How did you attract/address your audience?

The free wallpaper QR code may be effective for a modern teenage audience, due to the use of technology available to them.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have learnt how to create a more effective black and white effect using colour balancing techniques, as well as removing imperfections from the image. I learnt vector graphics skills when creative the phone image for the wallpaper.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

My school magazine could have included more seperated and smaller chunks of text that may be more effective for younger audiences.

Contents Page Analysis

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

This contents page has taken some conventions from other magazines with the way in which one picture takes the focus, with a banner with the other pages. The editors choice is a generic convention of other magazines also. The magazine challenges other ones of the same genre by not showing large amounts of pages on the page.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

This product uses stereotypical iconography that may negatively represent the target audience.

How did you attract/address your audience?

The twitter and facebook links may interest the teenage audiences, as they often connect to websites and like updates instantaneously rather than weekly issues, whilst allowing magazine readers with similar music tastes to connect with one another.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have improved skills on removing problems with photographs using the clonebrush tool (has been used to remove a sign on the door), and how to make a section of an image black and white, with the rest remaining in colour.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

The prelinary task could have benefited by using a larger image that has been overlayed with the page contents, rather than a smaller image, and I could have used the photo in a more creative way, like I have here.

Front Cover Analysis

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

This magazine cover does not contain vast amounts of text covering the page, which I felt is more appealing to a teenage audience, other magazines of this genre often use large amounts of texts all over the page to try and give intensive however I feel the lack of content creates the feeling of exclusivity and looks more appealing to a teenage audience. The image is conventional of others with this genre, with someone looking directly at the camera.

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

To an outside audience, this cover may negatively represent the teenage social groups. This is because of the 'grunge like' iconography, which may badly reflect it's target audience.

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

IPC Media could distribute this magazine, as they own a large variety of music magazines, but do not have any within this genre. By covering this audience too, the IPC Media audience itself is broadened.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The target audience of this magazine would be teenagers aged 16-20. The genre itself is usually aimed at these younger audiences, and the iconography I have used reflects this. The magazine price is cheap and therefore is affordable for these younger audiences.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I have attracted the audience with the iconography used, that may be appealing to the teenage audience. I have used little text other than the logos of the musicians the audience may recognize.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

I have improved my image manipulation skills, allowing me to change the background of the photo and match the colours. I have also learnt about transfer modes, and how this makes the text look as if it is on the wall.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

I have learnt that keeping with a complementary colour scheme creates a much more effective visual style that is more aesthetically pleasing, making the work look more professional. I have also learnt that overlapping images can be distracting, and does not look appealing.

Double Page Final Design

This is the final design of my music magazine double page spread. I have taken the layout from my draft, but I felt like the text looking as if it were on the image had a nicer effect.

Double Page Draft

This is the layout draft for my double page spread.

BLACK = Text Location
RED      = Title Location
GREEN = Focus of the image

Double Page Research

This double page spread shows Daft Punk on the right page, with the text on the left. The text is in two columns and is written uniformly with no titles or alternate fonts. The image has been altered by the addition of a white glow outline to the image, and the image being cut out and put on a space background. There is a lot of spare room on the page, and the design is very clean.

This image is also on the right hand page. The title quote takes up the majority of the page, and is white on black text. This title lights up with the image, and overlaps the pages. The writing is small and is across four pages. The image is on a white background, making it look more like a newspaper article.

Contents Page Final Design

This is my final contents page design. I decided to make the main picture the focus, and do a detailed description of this page, alongside a banner with a more minimal contents page.
